Teaching Reading

School children in Malaysia, like school children all over the world, need to learn to read. However, learning to read in a second language can be daunting. The "Stories for Malaysian Kids" project is an attempt to work towards improving children's motivation to read by providing some suitable stories for them to read. You can read more about this on the "Stories for Malaysian Kids" website. (Click on the link).

Little Books to encourage Reading

Children can make their own little books to read and share, and/or the teacher can make little books to print or photocopy for the whole class telling stories about the children themselves, or written especially for them.
Instructions for creating little books (using a single sheet of new or recycled paper) can be found here.

English Reading Materials for Malaysian School Students

Research into the availability of English reading materials in school libraries in Terengganu was carried out in 2012. The paper and MELTA presentation (2012, Kuching) can be found by clicking this link.
